How Can You Manage Your Time Better?

In our fast paced multitasking way of life, we always find ourselves struggling with time. Managing time can be quite tough for those of us with a weak resolve and even if we try our best, more often than not we end up giving up on it just like our New Year’s resolution.

So if it’s impossible, how will reading this article help you?

Well now that you have finished watching the video and I have your attention, let’s talk about Procrastination; one of the main reasons why we need time management in the first place. It’s easy to be distracted by something more interesting when you find yourself stuck deep in a pile of work that’s not exciting enough. How many of us actually get to do what we wanted to do? But still, we need to do what we have to do.

How to make the best of your time?

  1. Plan before you start. Planning ahead is extremely important before you start anything. You need to know how you are going to do something before you actually indulge in. It doesn’t matter how brilliant you are, but if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. Plan your day when you wake up and plan before you start a task. Keep your priorities straight.
  2. Make a note. Once you have planned ahead, make a note. If it’s simple and something you can easily remember, make a mental note; otherwise write it down on a piece of paper and slip it in your wallet or keep it in a place where you would easily run into it. I keep my notes on my desktop screen – even though it looks shabby, it works for me.
  3. Schedule your time. Remember how you used to sit in exams when you were a kid? In the allotted time you had to answer all the questions. How did you schedule your answers then? Use the same process to schedule your time for each task. Stick to the time allocated, well unless you have to be creative to come up with new ideas. Ideation is a process which needs a different approach that can’t be limited with time, but speeded up with different stimuli.
  4. Concentrate. When you are scheduling time for a task, keep a small buffer of 5-10 minutes before you start with it. Use this time to get in the groove and to set your mind on the task at hand. Watch a small video for a minute or two, have a quick bite or anything else that you might find interesting while you think about the exact time when you will be starting with your task. Start on time. It’s very important to start on time as it sets the tone.
  5. Keep away fr
